There are so many incredible places to look for drawing tips and to find learning materials that can help hone and improve drawing skills. From websites to online courses, there are endless options out there to help you become a better artist. In this post, I want to share with you my favorite sources that I keep coming back to for inspiration and improving drawing skills. No matter where you look, it’s important to find a source that best suits your needs and preferences.
Skillshare
I love Skillshare so much! It is a paid platform, but it is absolutely worth all the money when you consider the sheer amount of knowledge that is available there. Not only did I get to learn about a lot of topics, I also found many inspiring creatives on the platform that I now follow on social media and learn from outside the platform. The best thing about Skillshare is that it focuses on a practical approach – every lesson is taught in an actionable way, so you can easily follow along. It’s amazing how much you can learn in a short amount of time. You can sign up to Skillshare here.
Instagram, TikTok
If you follow any artists on Instagram or TikTok, most of them post behind-the-scenes videos and photos, sharing their art process. You can often see how they draw step-by-step, from the initial sketching to the finished art piece, and learn from their process. In addition to watching them work, another great idea is to do art studies – pick an artist whose work you like and try to recreate some of their pieces (for private, learning purposes!). This really allows you to get deep into how they draw, pick up a few tricks, and try different approaches to drawing. By doing this, you can gain valuable insight how they create their artwork and improve drawing skills fast.
Youtube
With the endless amount of speed paints and drawing tutorials available on YouTube, it can honestly be overwhelming to narrow down the best ones to watch. Whether you’re a beginner looking to get started or an experienced artist looking to hone their skills, you’ll find something that works for you there. With so many resources to choose from, you’re sure to find something that will help you take your art to the next level. Here are some of my favorite channels to learn from:
Patreon
This is one of my favorite ways to learn from artists that I truly admire. Patreon is a service that allows you to pay a small monthly fee to artists, who will in return share their knowledge, tips, and creative process with you! It is a great way to support the artists you love and appreciate, so they can follow their dreams and create the art they are passionate about. It is also a great way to stay connected to the artists you admire and be part of their creative journey. Not only will you be supporting them financially, but you will be able to improve drawing skills and grow alongside them.
Blogs
A lot of artists run their own blogs (oh, hello!) where you can read quite a lot about their work, thoughts, recommendations, and find some useful tutorials. There are also some really cool websites you can check out, such as CreativeBloq, ConceptArtEmpire, PatternObserver or DesignBundles. With these sites, you can find a huge amount of resources and tips to use in your own creative projects.
